OWEN SOUND DISTRICT SECONDARY SCHOOL EXTRA CURRICULAR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES 2024-2025
It is important to participate in school life and get involved. These experiences will carry with you for life; you develop friendships, participate in healthy lifestyles and gain valuable knowledge for future endeavors. You may also find employment opportunities and scholarships based on the variety of activities you participate in. Most important, it is FUN! Care about your school culture and participate.
You must pay your student fees in order to participate in athletic activities. Student fees this year are $60.00 and will also include a yearbook. If these fees cannot be paid, please see administration or guidance. We want you to participate and have fun.
Listen to announcements to see when teams are starting up. If you miss the announcement, check out the announcement board outside the office or ask the front office or guidance where to locate teachers involved with the activity you are interested in. Teachers and costs may vary from year to year. Find out more information about joining. Listen to announcements and get involved. It's FUN!

Athletic Eligibility--Students should be aware of the following criteria when they plan to participate in extra-curricular sports:
- Sixth-year students will NOT be permitted to participate in OFSAA sanctioned events. Students will be eligible for no more than five consecutive calendar years from their date of entry into grade 9.
- For the first four years of a semestered high school, a student must be registered in a minimum of 3 credit courses in the semester in which s/he participates. After the fourth year of high school, a student must be taking 2 credit courses per semester.
- Students who work to their individual academic potential are eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities. Poor academic achievement or poor attendance may result in removal of extra-curricular privileges. Students are responsible for all work missed. Arrangements with teachers should be made well in advance of the absence.
- Students must have paid student fees in order to be eligible to play school sports. Tournament and uniform fees may be required for some sports.
- Students are NOT permitted to drive their own vehicles to or from any excursion or sports event without permission from the principal.
- Students new to OSDSS (exception: Grade 9 students): Students transferring from another school are deemed ineligible for sports competition for the year after they transfer UNLESS they apply and meet the criteria.
